Matter is anything that has mass and volume. Can be found as a liquid, solid or a gas. 

Physical Change-  a change in a substances appearance but not what it is made of.  Example Cheese-  color,  state, smell and taste.

Physical Property-  A property that can be observed.  Example Cheese-  color,  state, smell and taste.

 

Chemical property-  is how a substance reacts to another substance.

Chemical Change-  A change that forms a new substance with new properties. Example:  Burning logs changes to gas and ash. 

Examples of Chemical Changes

Statue of Liberty has gone through a chemical change because copper reacted w/ oxygen turning the statue green in color. 

A chemical change that happens inside of our body is digestion.  

Lesson Review

1.        The 5 physical properties of matter are color, smell, taste, texture,  and state (gas, liquid, solid).

2.       When observing chemical change a new substance is formed. 

3.       Snow melting is a physical change
